Restricted Area

Many trekking areas are restricted to foreigners, and require a special permit. Upper Mustang, Upper Dolpo, Manaslu, Lower Dolpo, Rara Lake are examples of Restricted Trekking areas in Nepal where access to foreigners is strictly controlled. These trekking areas are different in many features from ordinary trails. You must travel with the assistance of an executive person and have a special permit. Groups must consist of a minimum of two trekkers and their required staffs. The main purpose of these areas being 'restricted' is to protect the natural environment and culture from outside pressures. An environmental representative has to register with the police and government offices in route. The treks must be fully prearrange through a registered trekking agency, and has to be fully equipped with tents, all support staffs, cooks, etc. Now.
